This department comprises of medical professionals called Psychiatrists, who are responsible for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of mental disorders such as Mood disorders (Depression or Bipolar Affective Disorders), Psychosis (Schizophrenia), Personality disorders, Anxiety disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and various Addictions. Psychiatric disorders are prevalent in all age groups. Psychiatrists determine whether the symptoms are due to physical illness, a combination of physical and mental ailments or strictly psychiatric ailments. They usually treat patients with medication, or a combination of medication and psychotherapy or talk therapy.
