Personal Safety and Sexual Health Education Workshop

14.05.2018

Life is precious and information is power. The 2 and half hour session that was held on the premises of Crystal Minds clinic on 30th April was based on precisely these two tenets. The subject of the workshop was personal safety and sexual health education, a relevant topic that needs to be addressed for adolescents all over the country. The informative and interactive session was conducted by counselling psychologists Debanjali Saha and Pavitra Sahay, who helped participants learn how to stay protected in a variety of unsafe environments as well as when posed with threats by people known and unknown, the necessity to be aware of one’s surroundings, having the courage and ability to communicate, as well as how to maintain safety while on the World Wide Web. The session was directed at providing accurate information on various aspects of sexual health as well as an open platform for misconceptions on the topic to be clarified without fear of judgment or embarrassment. Shyness over the topic of sex was exchanged for the realization that safety is the new cool word. As Dr. Rima Mukherji (Founder & Lead Psychiatrist of Crystal Minds) says,“Sometimes we learn harsh truths from first-hand experience, but there are some truths that are best not given an opportunity to be experienced.”
